Small Business Owners: 3 Ways to Overcome Discouragement and Keep Moving Forward

Running a small business is an exciting and rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging and stressful at times. As a small business owner myself, I've faced days of doubt and feeling defeated , so you aren't alone! However, it's important to recognize that feeling discouraged is a normal part of the entrepreneurial journey, and there are ways to overcome it.

Here are 3 things to do when you feel self-doubt (I do these too!)

  1. Acknowledge It: The first step to overcoming discouragement is to acknowledge it. As a small business owner, it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and forget to take a step back and reflect on your progress. When you feel discouraged, take a moment to acknowledge your feelings and recognize that it's okay to feel this way. It's normal to have these days, and it doesn't mean you're failing.

  2. Journal it Out: Journaling is a powerful + helpful tool to help you process your emotions and gain clarity about your situation. When you feel discouraged, take some time to write down your thoughts and feelings in a journal. It can be therapeutic to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Writing can also help you understand patterns or triggers that may be causing your discouragement. Write down those things and try to rewrite them in a positive way. Include any mini achievements too - those matter!

  3. Change Your Surroundings: Sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders for your mood and motivation. If you're feeling discouraged, try changing your surroundings. You could take a walk outside, work from a different location, or work from the floor! Being in a new environment can help you gain a fresh perspective on your situation and boost your creativity, productivity and energy!

As a small business owner, feeling discouraged is normal, but it's important to know how to overcome it. Acknowledge your feelings, journal it out, and change your surroundings to help you gain perspective, process your emotions, and regain your motivation. Remember that setbacks and challenges are a part of the entrepreneurial journey, but it is w-o-r-t-h i-t!
